Bomb squad called to investigate suspicious package, Cleveland homeowner says it was just fireworks

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - Cleveland police had to bring in the bomb squad to investigate a suspicious package overnight.

The incident occurred in the 4400 block of W. 170th Street around 2 a.m. Wednesday.

Police said the bomb squad was called and rendered the device safe.

19 News spoke with the homeowner who said the package contained fireworks.

The homeowner (who does not want to be identified) says that for the last 5 years, a young man has been harassing them and others in the neighborhood by egging their house and throwing rocks to cause damage. Before police got there Wednesday morning, she said she saw a teenage boy in a light-colored hoodie leaving the scene.

She and her husband are tired of the harassment.

“I don’t know why they picked us, we don’t, we’re not bad people, we’re not ones to take the ball away from you if it lands on your grass, I don’t know," she said.

Her husband has lived at the home for about 40 years but now they’re considering a move next year.

She’s thankful to Cleveland Police for their help but wants the troublemaker to go away for good.

“I hope it scared the kid enough that he will stop. I hope,” she said.

Police have not made any arrests.
