CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - Cleveland Police are investigating after human remains were found near Larchmont Road and Clermont Road in Cleveland’s Collinwood neighborhood on Wednesday morning.
According to Cleveland police, the dismembered human remains were found in the field around 4 a.m. after a brush fire broke out in the area.
“Cleveland Fire received a call for small fire,” said Lt. Ollie Pillow. "The fire department immediately noted there was a body on fire.”
Cleveland Police Sgt. Jennifer Ciaccia told 19 News that some body parts were missing, which could make identifying the body more difficult
The case is being investigated as a homicide.
“I woke up to it, it was like four o’clock in the morning, and I saw flashing lights through my window," said Wonriccus Donat, who lives near the crime scene. "I woke up trying to figure out what was going on here.”
“It’s very shocking to see this around here. A burning body? You don’t see that every day around this neighborhood,” Donat said.
Others tell a different story.
“It doesn’t shock me at all in this neighborhood.” said a neighbor who asked not to be identified.
He said he’s lived in the area since the 1990′s and has noticed a steady decline.
“Not surprised at all. I’m getting used to it,” he said.
The body was found beside a set of train tracks at the end of a long driveway, separate from the main roadway near the intersection of Larchmont and Clermont Roads. The area is filled with brush and is mostly secluded from the residential area of the neighborhood.
