Woman killed by suspected ex-boyfriend identified by Cleveland officials

The incident happened at 11:30 Sunday morning on the 9600 block of Mount Auburn Avenue.

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - Cleveland Police said a 29-year-old woman has died following a shooting, and a 28-year-old woman suffered minor injuries. A homicide investigation is underway.

That 29-year-old was identified as Arianne Welch.

Welch was pronounced dead at University Hospital.

Police said the 28-year-old woman was found with injuries after jumping from the second-floor porch trying to escape.

She was treated and released.

A 40-year-old man was in the downstairs residence and shots came through the floor/his ceiling. He was not injured, police said.

Police said the preliminary investigation indicates the suspect is Welch’s ex-boyfriend and that he entered the residence, and shot the 29-year-old woman.

No arrests have been made.

He is a 44-year-old man. The Homicide Unit continues to investigate.

Homicide Unit and Special Investigation Unit have been notified.
