AKRON, Ohio (WOIO) - A police chase ended when a car crashed into an Akron police cruiser near the intersection of Brittain Road and Preston Avenue in Akron, according to Akron police.
The crash happened around 3 p.m. on Tuesday after officers tried to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation on Route 8 northbound near Glenwood Avenue.
The driver of the vehicle ignored the police cruiser’s siren and lights and led police on a chase through residential neighborhoods “at excessive speeds,” according to a release.
The chase ended when the vehicle crashed into another police cruiser that was not involved in the pursuit.
The vehicle also struck the car of a citizen who had pulled over on Brittain Road to let the police pass.
The driver of that vehicle was not hurt.
The officer in the cruiser that was hit sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene, a police spokesman said.
