NORTHFIELD VILLAGE, Ohio (WOIO) - Firefighters rescued a cat from an early morning house fire Monday.

When firefighters arrived in the 100 block of Rosewood Avenue around 3 a.m. flames were coming out the back of the home.

A total of three residents were able to escape safely before firefighters got there.

Residents told firefighters the sounds of crackling and the smell of smoke woke them up.

Firefighters said the cause remains under investigation, but is not considered suspicious.

Northfield Village Fire Chief Jason Buss said the home was heavily damaged and the residents are now staying with family members.

No firefighters were injured.

The cause remains under investigation, but Buss said it does not appear suspicious.

Buss added the home was in the process of being remodeled.

Macedonia and Oakwood firefighters helped Northfield Village at the scene.
