Snowstorm leaves tens of thousands of FirstEnergy customers without power in Northeast Ohio

CLEVELAND (WOIO) - The snow may be over, but downed lines and trees are still causing tens of thousands of power outages for FirstEnergy customers throughout Northeast Ohio.

FirstEnergy reported about 47,000 customers are without power as of 8 a.m. Wednesday.

Nearly 20,000 of those customers are in Cuyahoga County.

In Geauga County, 42% of FirstEnergy customers are without power Wednesday morning.

FirstEnergy said the company expects to restore power to the majority of affected customers by 11 p.m. on Dec. 3.

The heavy, wet snow is causing downed branches and cables.

FirstEnergy brought in 150 additional line workers and utility personnel to help restore power.

“Crews will be working 24/7 to get all customers back up and running as quickly and safely as possible; however, this could be a multi-day restoration effort in some areas,” FirstEnergy officials said.
