83-year-old woman killed by car while standing still on street in Lake Township

LAKE TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WOIO) - The Ohio State Highway Patrol confirmed an 83-year-old woman was fatally hit by a car while standing still on a street in Lake Township on Friday evening.

Lt. L.T. Shirkey said a 37-year-old Uniontown man was driving a red 2011 Toyota Camry on Pontius Road in Stark County when he struck a pedestrian in the roadway around 6 p.m.

She was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Lt. Shirkey.

The Highway Patrol identified her as Elena Ispas of Uniontown.

A witness stated Ispas was standing still in the eastbound lane of Pontius Road when she was hit by the car, according to Lt. Shirkey.

Springfield Police along with Uniontown Police and EMS assisted on scene.

The Highway Patrol said drugs nor alcohol appear to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
