2 fatal house fires since Sunday launches investigation in Akron

AKRON, Ohio (WOIO) - Firefighters said two elderly residents have been killed in house fires since Sunday.

Both fires were in the Kenmore neighborhood.

The latest one happened Monday around 1:30 p.m. in the 1200 block of Carnegie Avenue.

A woman in her 70′s was killed.

Her name has not been released.

Richard Johnson, 73, died Sunday inside his home in the 1000 block of Hancock Avenue.

A second person was also injured in the Hancock Avenue fire.

“Our investigators are looking at all of the evidence for any possible connections, but we are not thinking anything is suspicious at this time,” said Akron Fire Lt. Sierjie Lash.
