Neighbors heartbroken after an elderly Canton woman ran over, killed in hit-skip

CANTON, Ohio (WOIO) - Canton Police still on the hunt for a cold-hearted hit and run driver.

An 84-year-old woman is dead.

The tragedy happened on 12th St. at Louisiana Avenue in Canton.

A driver ran over an elderly woman and police say they never stopped.

She was just crossing the street.

Neighbors are left heartbroken.

Willy Anderson was shocked to hear the sad news about the death of his 84-year-old neighbor.

“She walked you know very slow and I knew that one day this would happen,” Anderson added.

Police told 19 News the suspect’s car is a dark colored Ford Explorer, possibly a 2001 to 2004 model.

The vehicle should have damage to the headlight on the passenger side.

Neighbor Paul Giavasis knew the victim very well.

“She was a nice old lady,” he said.

He said he helped her carry her groceries to her house.

“She walked down to The Towers to help people on hospice everyday,” Giavasis said. “I gave her a ride every once in a while.”

Anderson still gutted by the incident and said drivers are always speeding by on the road.

“Might have to knock the speed limit down,” he suggested.

Police are asking for community help so the victim’s family can get justice.
