CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - The Browns defense received a much-needed boost on Wednesday, as cornerbacks Denzel Ward and Kevin Johnson were activated from the Reserve/Covid-19 list.
Big news, because the Browns are going to need them against Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs on Sunday.
“We all know, we all recognize this is a huge challenge for us,” head coach Kevin Stefanski said. “They’re a great team. They’re the Super Bowl champs for a reason, so we’ve got to play our best football.”
The Chiefs had the top-rated offense in the NFL this season, and even when their opponents do build up a lead, Mahomes routinely rallies the Chiefs to a comeback win.
“You’ve all seen it, we’ve all seen it, he’s a special player,” Stefanski said. “He can make every play, inside or outside the pocket, can move in the pocket and buy time. Really good athlete. He’s a special player. I think everybody who’s a fan of this game recognizes that.”
In other words, no lead will feel safe on Sunday, especially considering the way Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers rallied in the Wild Card game.
“Every week I feel like you’ve gotta score a lot of points in this league,” Stefanski said. “I totally recognize the challenge of this week.”
