WILLOUGHBY HILLS, Ohio (WOIO) - Willoughby Hills Police are searching for the suspects of an armed carjacking at Willoughby Hills Towers that left a 65-year-old man shot on Wednesday.
Chief Matthew Naegele said 911 calls were made for multiple shots fired in the parking lot of the apartment building at 27400 Chardon Road at approximately 7:22 p.m.
When officers arrived, they found a 65-year-old man with a gunshot wound on the north side parking deck of the apartment complex, Chief Naegele said.
According to the chief, Willoughby Hills Fire and EMS took him to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The investigation’s findings indicate at least two suspects arrived at the apartment complex in a bright red, newer model pickup truck, the chief said.
The victim was standing by his own black 2010 Ford Fusion in the parking lot when he was approached by a clean-shaven man in his early 20s who brandished a semi-automatic pistol, assaulted the victim, and shot him, Cheif Naegele said.
Chief Naegele said the suspect then got into the victim’s car and drove off along with the red pickup truck he arrived in and headed east on Chardon Road toward the area of Bishop Road and I-90.
The stolen Ford struck several cars in the parking lot on its way out, causing front end damage to it, the chief said.
