Cuyahoga Falls resident shoots and kills Akron man he claims was an armed intruder

CUYAHOGA FALLS, Ohio (WOIO) - An Akron man is dead after a homeowner said he entered uninvited with a gun.

The resident told police that’s what lead to the fatal incident.

He claims self-defense, but there are questions to be answered.

The Cuyahoga Falls Police Department said they’re still trying to figure out exactly what happened and why... and so are some neighbors who saw the police presence when they responded to the 911 call.

“We want peace in our community,” a neighbor said.

That peace was shattered by gunfire in the early morning hours of Saturday.

Around 5:45, a resident in the 2230 block of Richmond Road called police and told them he shot an armed intruder.

A neighbor who lives a few doors down and across the street from where the deadly shooting took place is concerned.

Cuyahoga Falls Police are calling the dead man, 41-year-old Demetrius Horton of Akron, a homicide victim.

They haven’t told us why they classified him that way.

Again, that neighbor said, “It is out of the control of the people, criminal activity.”

One lady, who regularly walks in the neighborhood, told 19 News that things like this don’t happen in this kind of community in Cuyahoga Falls.

Well, it doesn’t until it does... and it just did.

“We are very very sorry to see and hear that situation. We want peace in our community,” a neighbor said.

The incident is currently under investigation by the Cuyahoga Falls Police Department and the Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
