Fire officials issue warning after person dies trying to rescue animal from icy pond in Medina County

LITCHFIELD, Ohio (WOIO) - Fire officials from Litchfield Fire and Rescue are issuing a warning after someone died Saturday after they were trying to rescue an animal from an icy pond.

Litchfield Fire and Rescue said on Facebook the county water rescue team, comprised of members from various departments through the county had two ice rescues at the same time.
Fire officials said the Wayne County Dive team was called to assist with one of the calls.
“We can’t stress enough, DO NOT GO OUT ONTO THE ICE AFTER ANIMALS!,” Litchfield Fire and Rescue said on Facebook. “There is no safe ice on ponds in the area.”
