Waynesburg: Driver crashes into ambulance after dropping cell phone

WAYNESBURG, Ohio (WOIO) - A Carrollton driver crashed into an ambulance Tuesday after taking his eyes off the road to retrieve a dropped cell phone.

The crash happened on State Route 43 between 17th Street SE and Millerton Street SE shortly before 10:30 a.m., according to a media release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

William L. McMillen, 60, was headed north on SR 43 when his white 2005 Ford Ranger traveled left of center into the southbound lane and struck an ambulance, the release said.

In the ambulance were two Emergency Medical Transport employees: Alanie R. WOod, 28, of Strasburg, and Geoffrey D. Emerson, 43, of Carrollton, according to OSHP. No patients were in the ambulance at the time of the crash.

McMillen, Wood, and Emerson were taken to Aultman Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
