Families with loved ones in nursing homes upset with Walgreens after vaccine mishap
CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - Some local families are frustrated and confused Wednesday. They want to know how their loved ones were given bad doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.
On Monday, doses of the vaccine that had not been stored at the proper temperatures were administered at five senior facilities across Northeast Ohio.
The vaccines did not cause any harm to any of the patients, but those who received the faulty doses will have to get the shot again, Governor Mike DeWine said during a press conference Tuesday.
But Bessie Pasley whose uncle is under long-term care is not mincing words about the situation.
“I think it’s crazy. If your going to take the shot. Let it be done at a hospital a facility that is set up for it,” said Pasley.
Annie finds it upsetting to hear that Walgreens administered doses to seniors and staff at five nursing homes that had not been properly handled.
Her sister is also unhappy at the news.
“If the pharmaceutical companies can’t be trusted, we cannot trust them that their safe guards are in place,” Starks said.
19 News went looking for answers at Willow Park in Cleveland and got nowhere.
However a daughter of a woman at Heather Hill in Chardon, who did not want to reveal her identity, said she was uneasy over what happened.
“I was just wondering if my mother had received the bad vaccine. I talked to her, and she said [she] didn’t have the bad one,” the woman said. “Somebody screwed up and was careless, and I hope they don’t let in happen again.”
