Man dies after being shot by East Cleveland police officer during domestic violence call

EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - An East Cleveland police officer shot and killed a 27-year-old man during a domestic violence call Wednesday morning.

The Cuyahoga County medical examiner identified the victim as Cortez Lee Bogan, of Cleveland.
It happened around 10 a.m. in the area of Hayden Avenue and Bryn Mawr Road.
The woman called 911 saying her ex-boyfriend, Bogan, was possibly armed and causing a disturbance.
Officers said when they arrived, they saw the woman in a vehicle and Bogan trying to get inside her vehicle.

The woman began yelling to the officer that Bogan had a gun.
Police said Bogan was wearing a “security vest” and the officer saw the butt of the gun in the vest.
As the officer was struggling with Bogan, police said the man reached inside the “security vest” for the gun.
The officer then shot Bogan.

EMS transported Bogan to University Hospitals where he was pronounced dead.
The officer was not injured.
According to police, the woman told them Bogan has pulled a gun on her before and she also witnessed him pull the gun on the officer.
The Officer Involved Shooting Team from The Ohio Attorney General’s Office will handle the investigation.
