ELYRIA, Ohio (WOIO) - Police arrested two 17-year-old boys in connection with a Wednesday night fire in Elyria that destroyed a vacant commercial building, according to a press release.
One teen was charged with aggravated arson, failure to report a crime, and breaking and entering.
The other teen was charged with breaking and entering.
The fire occurred at 9 Kerstetter Way. The building was demolished Thursday morning due to fire damages.
The historical building was more than 100 years old but has remained vacant for about 10 years.
The building once housed bars, residential units and even a pool hall.
Former businesses include Uncle Vic’s, Mardi Gras and Rack and Roll Billiards.
Both of the teens are from Elyria, police said.
The teens are in the Lorain County Detention Home while they await a Juvenile Court hearing.
Firefighting crews across Lorain County provided aid to Elyria Fire Department. At least 15 departments assisted in the battle against the fire.
Weather conditions complicated fire control. Wind threatened to spread the fire to an adjacent building.
Thankfully, fire crews quickly contained the fire.
The fire caused a closure on Broad Street and Kerstetter Way.
