1 arrested after shooting at park in Lakewood
LAKEWOOD, Ohio (WOIO) - Lakewood Police arrested a person Thursday in connection to a shooting at Madison Park.
The shooting started after an altercation on the basketball court.
Police got calls for shots fired around 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
“Hey, there’s somebody shooting in Madison Park,” a 911 caller said. “He’s in a silver car, he just pulled up. He’s on Halstead Avenue right now.”
Officers found one person with a gunshot wound in the arm when they arrived, according to a press release.
Others fled before officers arrived, police said.
EMS took the injured person to MetroHealth Hospital for treatment.
After the person was released, Lakewood Police place him under arrest, but that person’s name has not been released. Police are still looking for several others they believe to be involved.
Jennie Oravetz lives a couple blocks away and for her the shooting hit a little too close to home, literally.
“We were in the dining room and we heard a loud crash from our window breaking and I came outside, and our neighbor said he had seen the bullet fly past his window, and he heard our window break and everything else and then my husband found the slug from the bullet lying in our windowsill,” explained Oravetz.
Oravetz called police, who came and took the bullet. Her landlord had already fixed the window by the time we came by, but Oravetz says she is just glad no one was upstairs when it happened.
“I have a five-year-old and I was glad he wasn’t home at the time, so it’s definitely concerning,” Oravetz said.
The person remains in Lakewood Police custody, according to a press release.
Police continue investigating the incident.
