AKRON, Ohio (WOIO) - 19 News has learned Akron firefighters found the body of a man who barricaded himself inside a home shortly before it caught fire.
The victim’s name and cause of death have not been released at this time.
According to Akron police, officers were called to the home in the 700 block of Moraine Avenue Saturday evening for a family disturbance.
When officers arrived, they said the man refused to come outside.
A short time later, smoke began to pour from the structure, and police called the fire department.
The home quickly became engulfed in flames and collapsed.
Investigators searched the structure for hours Monday before finding the victim’s body.
A pig and two rabbits found in cages in the backyard were taken to a shelter by a Humane Society and Animal Rescue officer.
