5 people shot, 1 dead after shots fired into crowd at Garfield Heights block party
GARFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio (WOIO) - Five people were shot, one fatally, after an annual block party turned violent in Garfield Heights.
Around 10:30 p.m. Monday, police from Garfield Heights and at least three other cities responded to calls of a shooting in the 13200 block of Alvin Avenue.
An initial investigation by Garfield Heights police found that a block party was almost over when an argument led to shots being fired at random into a crowd that was gathered in front of a house and on the street.
Two juveniles, a boy and a girl, were taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds, police said.
A man identified by the Medical Examiner as 26-year-old Ameer Dealnor Jones Edmonds Jr was shot and died at the scene.
In addition, two adult men were shot and taken to the hospital in personal vehicles. While driving one of the victims to the hospital, the driver accidentally shot himself in the leg and was treated, according to Garfield Heights Police.
