Person of interest wanted in connection to 74-year-old Mansfield woman stabbed over 30x by home intruder
MANSFIELD, Ohio (WOIO) - Mansfield Police are urging the community to come forward and identify a person of interest in connection to a 74-year-old woman who was stabbed multiple times by an intruder as she was laying in bed in the early morning hours of June 3.
The attack happened around 7 a.m. in the 900 block of Brookfield Drive.
Mansfield Police said the victim was stabbed over 30 times.
EMS rushed the woman to a local hospital in an unknown condition.
The victim told officers she does not know the suspect or how he got inside her home.
He is only described as a light-skinned man, possibly bi-racial or Hispanic, in his late teens to 20s.
There may have also been a second person in the apartment with the suspect, but the victim never saw him.
Police said the investigation is in its early stages and they do not have a motive for the assault; however, it appears to be a random attack.
On Monday, Mansfield Police shared the following photo of a person of interest:
According to police, this photo was taken from a camera in the Brookfield apartment complex on Brookfield Drive the morning of June 3 around the time the woman was stabbed.
The person appears to be a man wearing a dark-colored (possibly black) hoodie with a light-colored (possibly white or light gray) front pocket, and shoes with a distinctive light-colored pattern.
According to police, it is unknown if this person was involved in the assault, but they may have seen or heard something that could provide additional information about the case.
If you can identify him or have any other information that may help investigators, call Det. Dave Scheurer at 419-755-9748 or the Mansfield Police at 419-755-9724.
