CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - Forty-two days after his birth, Cleveland Metroparks Zoo has announced the name of their baby orangutan.
The Bornean Orangutan was named Zaki, meaning “pure.” Zaki was born April 28.
His name was chosen through a donation program, according to a tweet posted by the zoo. Metroparks Zoo asked people to donate money to the name they liked best.
Zaki beat the competition, Rimba and Halim.
The program raised nearly $15,000 for orangutan conservation efforts, according to the tweet.
Metroparks Zoo said Zaki’s birth is the first successful orangutan birth at the zoo since 2014, and the fifth since the RainForest opened in 1992.
