Summit County pianist competing in Amateur Night at the Apollo moves to semifinals

AKRON, Ohio (WOIO) - Akron native Kofi Boakye is moving on to the semifinals for the Amateur Night at the Apollo competition.
The pianist again earned overwhelming approval from the audience and was crowned the night’s second-place winner.
Boakye played his version of “Say Yes” a song by the artist Floetry. He performed at the famed Apollo Theater in New York City’s Harlem neighborhood.
Boakye’s mom was in the audience for his latest performance.
The semifinals take place July 20. If Boakye earns either first, second or third-place that day he’ll move on to the finals happening in November.
Boakye told 19 News ahead of his initial performance that if he ends up winning the $20,000 grand prize it will go toward continuing his education at Berklee College of Music in Boston.
