CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - Two-time Academy Award-winning actor Tom Hanks will throw out the ceremonial pitch for the first home opener in Cleveland Guardians history.

Hanks, who started his acting career in Cleveland at the Great Lakes Theater Festival, said he’s had “Guardians fever” since 1977.

“I’m honored to return to Cleveland and Progressive Field for the first home game of the Cleveland Guardians era,” Hanks said in a news release.

Hanks assisted in announcing the team’s new name in a post on the team’s Twitter account.

The Guardians home opener is set for April 15 against the San Francisco Giants at 7:10 p.m.
