CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - Not only will home runs help the Cleveland Guardians win games this season, but they will also benefit the environment.

The Guardians have partnered with the Davey Tree Expert Company for the “Swing for the Trees” community initiative, which is meant to improve the tree canopy throughout Northeast Ohio.

For each home run hit by a Guardians player at Progressive Field this season, one tree will be planed in the Cleveland area.

“We’re excited to be a part of a program that will make Cleveland a greener place, and we look forward to rooting on our Guardians team to score lots of home runs this season,” Sandra Reid, vice president of corporate communications and strategic planning at Davey Tree, said.

Guardians players and Davey Tree employees will attend planting events in the spring of 2023 at locations that will be releveled later this summer.
