Police: 1 arrested for stabbing and killing father and son in Bedford
BEDFORD, Ohio (WOIO) - Bedford police arrested a suspect for stabbing and killing a man and his son early Saturday morning.
Officers arrived at a house on Magnolia Avenue at 8:50 a.m. after receiving reports of a man bleeding from the head, according to a department news release.
Officers found a 47-year-old man and a 19-year-old man on the floor of the home both bleeding profusely, according to police.
Officials confirmed the 19-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. The 47-year-old man was transported to a local hospital, where he later died from his wounds.
The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner identified the 47-year-old as Christopher Pate and the 19-year-old as Christopher Pate. 19 News confirmed the relationship between the two victims.
Belinda Hughey and her husband live next door to the Pate family and tell 19 News they are devastated beyond words, “Chris Pate, Jr. and Chris Pate, Sr. were amazing. Everyone on the street talked to Chris, Jr. The lady down the street can’t stop crying, because he was a neighborhood kid. He was our child. The father was the neighbor to dream of. He would do anything. If he cut his grass, he cut ours. They were amazing. We literally asked them to not move, because they considered moving, and then this happened.”
Police said they found and arrested the suspect shortly after arriving to the scene, where he was later transported to the Solon Jail.
The suspect has not yet been identified and officials have not confirmed any charges.
This story is ongoing and will be updated as more details are released.
