23-year-old man fatally shot inside car in Akron, police say
AKRON, Ohio (WOIO) - A 23-year-old man was found fatally shot in a car Saturday afternoon, according to Lt. Michael Miller of the Akron Police Department.
Officers were called to the 400 block of Noble Avenue at around 3:45 p.m. on Dec. 10, where they found the man unresponsive with an apparent gunshot wound to the upper body, according to a department press release.
Police said the man died at the scene.
The family of the victim identified the man as Anthony Smith, his mother distraught along with Smith’s sister Anastasia.
“That was not only my sibling, that was like a child to me,” Anastasia said. “I watched him grow up, I helped my mother raise him.”
Akron Police and the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office are not confirming the name at this time.
Upon initial investigation, officers learned the suspect shot multiple times into the vehicle prior to leaving the area.
It’s unclear how long the victim had been there.
