AKRON, OH (WOIO) - Two Akron police officers were seriously injured during a pre-dawn chase Thanksgiving morning.
The hot pursuit happened around 3AM at Copley and Madison Avenues.
Officials tell 19 Action News Akron Police were trying to stop the driver of a 2005 Nissan Altima for suspicious behavior. The driver refused to stop and a chase ensued.
That's when the fleeing driver blew through a stop light and struck another Akron Police cruiser.
The force of the collision propelled the cruiser over the curb, where it came to rest against a fire hydrant on the southwest corner.
Both officers in that cruiser were rushed to the hospital - as well as two people in the suspects car.
No word on identities yet but both officers are two-year vets.
The driver of the Nissan - 24-year-old Dontrell Parker of Cleveland - and his passenger - an 18-year-old female - were transported to area hospitals with what appear to be non-life threatening injuries.
Officers determined that Nissan Altima was stolen from Boardman, Ohio.
