CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - A Cleveland man in big trouble this hour for lying to police.

Kermit Marshall was carjacked at Woodhill and Sophia late Thursday night. So to get a better response from police, he said his 3-year-old granddaughter was seated in the front seat and also gone.

Police rushed to the scene, found the missing car around the corner but no child.

That's when the 60-year-old confessed.

"Upon further investigation we found out there was no child in the car originally and found out the child was safe at home with mom," said CPD Lt. Renee Kane.

"Apparently, he wanted us to get here quicker," Kane added.

Marshall was promptly placed under arrest for making a false police report.
