HURON TOWNSHIP, OH (WOIO) - On June 17th around 2:30 p.m., Ohio State Highway Patrol Pilot Trooper Brian Dail, was in an Ohio State Highway Patrol aircraft and observed two motorcycles at a high rate of speed, weaving in and out of traffic on SR 2 westbound on the Huron River Bridge, Huron Township.
Trooper Dail checked their speed at 82 miles per hour and notified a trooper on the ground to stop the two motorcycles. Lieutenant D. Edge flagged the two motorcycles to the berm and both came to a brief stop before fleeing westbound at a high rate of speed.
Trooper J. McGlashan was west of Lt. Edge on SR 2 and attempted to stop the fleeing motorcycles and both failed to yield to his signal.
Sgt. E. Short was stationary at Rye Beach Road and attempted to stop the fleeing violators and again both failed to yield to the emergency lights and siren. Trooper Dail followed the violators and again checked their speed in a measured speed zone at 155 miles per hour as they continued to flee.
One motorcycle exited at US 250 and was boxed in by OSP cruisers and the driver was taken into custody. The driver, Leyrone Coore, age 27, Cleveland, Ohio, was charged with felony fleeing and eluding, reckless operation, no motorcycle endorsement, and possession of marijuana and was incarcerated in the Erie County Jail. He will appear in Huron Municipal Court on Tuesday, June, 21st.
The second motorcycle continued westbound on SR 2, driving recklessly at high rates of speed, passing on the berm, and cutting in and out of traffic. Danbury Township Police Department and the Ottawa County Sheriff's Department attempted to stop the second motorcycle but were unsuccessful.
Trooper Dail continued to follow in the OSP aircraft and again checked the speed of the second motorcycle at 163 miles per hour in a measured speed zone. The pursuit was terminated as SR 2 merged to two lanes at the Erie Industrial Park.
Trooper Dail continued to follow the motorcycle westbound on SR 2 and make a left turn onto Lickert Harder road and into a private residence. The suspect hid the motorcycle in a barn at the residence.
Trooper Dail stayed over the house maintaining a visual on the barn until Ottawa County Sheriff's Deputies, Carroll Township Police, and the Sandusky OSP arrived at the residence and took the suspect into custody.
The suspect, Gemeil Johnson, age 36, was arrested by the Ottawa County Sheriff's Department and was incarcerated in the Ottawa County Jail. He will appear in the Ottawa County Municipal Court on June 20th.
