MEDINA, OH (WOIO) - Medina Police arrested the former youth football coach Thursday, for his alleged role in the theft of money from the former Medina Bees Youth Football Association, a non-profit organization.
Michael T. Butts, 47, was charged in an indictment by the Medina County Grand Jury with Engaging in a Pattern of Corrupt Activity, Grand Theft and Forgery.
Butts, the former long time coach and commissioner of the youth football organization, ran the organization from 2002 until May 2011 when a concerned parent brought the missing funds to the attention of Medina Police and the investigation began.
"The indictment alleges Butts stole between $7,500 and $150,000 from the youth program which he ran for years," said Kevin Baxter, Special Prosecutor. "Our work continues as additional information is being evaluated. I want to commend the Medina Police and the State of Ohio, BCI for their diligent pursuit of this investigation."
"Betrayal of a public trust deserves to be dealt with in a public manner. We are not going to tolerate this kind of crime in Medina," said Chief Patrick Berarducci. "This has been a long and difficult investigation, but we made a commitment to it because we felt it was important for the victims of these alleged crimes to have answers."
