Victim stabs suspect in Painesville home invasion

PAINESVILLE, OH (WOIO) - Painesville Police were called to an apartment at 39 Pearl Street for a report of a home invasion robbery early Friday morning.

Police say the victim stabbed the 26-year-old suspect, who was located nearby.

"I got attacked last night. Just out of the blue. Came in with a gun and pistol whipped me," the victim, Rico Graham told us, recalling the incident.

He was sleeping on the floor in front of his TV overnight when he says he was confronted for money and attacked.

The apartment has blood all over, remnants of the two men's struggle for survival.

Graham said, "He raised up that gun again and I just grabbed it and we started struggling and that's when I stabbed him."

Graham told us this row of apartments are lived in by people who are mostly elderly and don't even lock their doors at night, people who treat each other like family.  He does lock his doors and is one of the younger people here. That makes him an odd choice for a target.

"He picked on the wrong guy. I'm glad he didn't pick on one of the old ladies you know what I'm sayin," he said.

Graham was also taken to Tri-Point Medical Center for treatment of wounds.

Police haven't been able to talk to the suspect to get his story, he was lifeflighted to MetroHealth Medical Center for surgery.
