Local events observe MLK Day

Monday, January 20 is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. A time to remember the civil rights leader and to celebrate his place in history.

The following local events are taking place today:

MLK Day at MOCA (Museum of Contemporary Art)

Monday, January 20
11400 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland
FREE and open to ALL

Spend your day off engaging with the exhibitions on view while exploring Cleveland's newest cultural icon. Special activities programmed for this day include community mobile making, fabric weaving, video projections, ArtSquad crafts, and guided tours at 1, 2, and 3 p.m.

University Circle - Cleveland

Celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in University Circle. On Monday, January 20, The Rink at Wade Oval will be open special hours from
Noon-5 p.m. Admission is FREE and skate rentals are $3.

University Circle Inc. will provide a free shuttle bus to take guests to the participating organizations in University Circle on Monday, January 20. The shuttle bus will run from
11  a.m. - 4 p.m. Click here to see the route.

Cleveland Orchestra – MLK Celebration Concert

Monday January 20, 7 p.m.
Severance Hall 11001 Euclid Ave. Cleveland
FREE, but all tickets have been distributed

The 34th annual concert will be performed with the Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Chorus and unopened non-perishable food items will be collected for donation upon entrance.

Children's Museum of Cleveland

Monday January 20, 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.
10730 Euclid Ave. Cleveland
Half Price Admission ($4.00)

The museum will be honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with a collage created by visitors. Children can write or draw their dream of a better world and then add it to the collage.

Cleveland Botanical Garden

Monday January 20, 1 p.m. - 3 p.m.
11030 East Boulevard, Cleveland
FREE with Garden admission (Adults $9.50, Children $4.00)

Children can create their own craft using seeds and plant that are important to African American agriculture.

Cleveland Museum of Art

Monday January 20, 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.
11150 East Boulevard, Cleveland
FREE Admission

The museum will hold activities honoring the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with live performances, hands-on family art projects, gallery activities and more.

Cleveland Public Library

Monday January 20, 1 p.m.
1962 Stokes Boulevard, Cleveland

The library will present over 100 rare artifacts and photos highlighting the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. with music performances from the Cleveland Metropolitan School District All-City Drum Line and soloist Michael G. Williams.

Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage

Monday, January 20, 11 a.m. - 5 p.m.
2929 Richmond Road, Beachwood
FREE admission

The celebration includes a Q&A session with the honorable Louis Stokes, U.S. Congressman from Ohio (retired). It also included a one act play honoring Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King and Gandhi.
