A letter written to a judge sheds new light on the man suspected of shooting and killing a child and wounding her mother.
A 19 Action News investigation has found Geoffrey Gurkovich has been in and out of prison.
During his times behind bars he's made numerous requests to get out early.
In one case, he wrote a letter to a judge.
In one, Gurkovich wrote that he is "very much ashamed", and he "will not fail" again.
He goes on to write, "I will think before I act...I want more than anything to do the right thing."
Gurkovich's attempt to get out early with that letter failed.
And despite those words, he's in custody again.
Cleveland Police are holding him for the horrific January 19th shooting that left a little girl dead.
19 Action News has also found Gurkovich has been convicted in multiple domestic violence cases.
Other police reports indicate he has threatened to kill before.
