Furnace repairmen working overtime during bitter blast

BAY VILLAGE, OH (WOIO) - Matthew Guertin just received the keys to his new house and he just received the news that he needs his furnace fixed.

The temperature in his home is 42 degrees. Guertin says he has so many boxes ready to be unpacked, but it's hard to think about that because it's so cold inside.

"It's freezing. We got a lot of work to do so we needed heat on. We got five little kids. We want to move in next weekend, so we gotta have some heat," said Guertin.

The five kids are all under the age of seven.

"We've been absolutely swamped," said Mike Furraj of Budget Heating and Air Conditioning.

The company has been busy during this bitter blast.

Mike Furraj and his son are working on the Guertin's furnace.

"People concerned about freezing pipes certainly a big issue in their home, obviously homes getting colder," said Furraj.

Furraj says there are things you can do to prevent more work down the road.

"Check your air filters. Have your furnace cleaned, tuned up seasonally and hopefully you can avoid problems during the heating season," said Furraj.

After just a few minutes Guertin received some good news.

"Looks like they got it running now," said Furraj.

Experts say most times the air filter is the problem, so it's worth paying just $2 to $15 to replace it.
