MANSFIELD, OH (WOIO) - Mansfield firefighters responded to a fire at Stop The Overpopulation of Pets cat rescue shelter on Lexington Ave. Friday evening.
Around 6:30 p.m. the fire department found the shelter ablaze with cats inside.
The Mansfield Fire Chief confirmed 3 cats did not survive the fire, 38 cats were removed from the shelter and 8 are unaccounted for at this time.
The fire started in the basement of the shelter and no suspicious activity was reported.
A cause has not been reported for the start of the fire.
