Timeline of the Douglas Prade trial
AKRON, OH (WOIO) - The day started with Douglas Prade being handcuffed just after 9 a.m. and taken back into custody, bringing relief to Dr. Margo Prade's family. She was killed in 1997 at her Akron Medical Office.
"I still care about Douglas, and it hurts. I just want him to tell the truth. It would have been over a long time ago," says Veronica Sadler, Margo Prade's sister.
But the family's relief was short-lived. Three hours later, the Ohio Supreme Court issued an order that let him back out while his case is being appealed.
By 3 p.m. Prade was out of jail.
This afternoon, he got into this car and rode away, his side winning this latest round of legal volleying.
Prade was convicted of killing his wife in 1997. But last year a judge released him from prison, saying new DNA evidence showed he was not guilty.
Then yesterday the appeals court said the judge overstepped her bounds and Prade should finish out his sentence.
"Let me tell you. It has to be the hand of God. That's all. I'm a religious person. And I believe it was the hand of God that waved over the situation," said Yvone Prade.
Prade has maintained his innocence from the beginning, but his murder conviction still stands unless his lawyers are able to win that battle, too.
