Akron DUI checkpoints prove successful

AKRON, OH (WOIO) - On Friday, the Summit County OVI Task Force conducted two sobriety checkpoints in Akron, resulting in a variety of arrests.

Results of the South Main Street at Thornton Street checkpoint:

737 Vehicles passed through the checkpoint in total

53 Vehicles were directed into the diversion area for further investigation or violations

1 Person was arrested for Operating a Motor Vehicle under the Influence of Alcohol or Drugs

10 People were arrested for Driving under Suspension

2 People were cited for No Operator's License

1 Person was cited for Operating on only a Temporary Permit

1 Person was cited for Failure to use Safety Restraints

3 Vehicles were impounded

Results of the Thornton Street at May Street checkpoint:

101 Vehicles passed through the checkpoint in total

10 Vehicles were directed into the diversion area for further investigation or violations

2 People were arrested for Driving under Suspension

3 People were cited for no Operator's License

1 Person was cited for failing to use child restraints for children

1 Person was cited for misdemeanor Drug Abuse

Saturation patrol cars assigned to the checkpoints resulted in the following arrests and citations:

1 Person was arrested for a felony warrant of Rape

1 Person was arrested for Misrepresentation of Identity

2 People were cited for misdemeanor Drug Abuse

1 Person was cited for Drug Paraphernalia

4 People were cited for Failure to use Safety Restraints

2 People were cited for driving the wrong way on a one-way street

1 Person was cited for Illegal U-turn

1 Person was cited for Failure to Stop

1 Person was cited for Driving without Headlights

1 Person was cited for Expired Registration
