Cleveland Police have arrested a wanted rape suspect, who had just been released from prison in March.
James Daniel III, 33, was taken into custody at a home on West 87th Street near Detroit Avenue just after 12:30 p.m. Thursday. He was out on parole for robbery.
The arrest comes just about an hour after police released Daniel's name and picture.
Daniel is a suspect in the attack on September 2, 2014 at 5:41 a.m. near West 104 and Lake Road.
Police say a 46-year-old female was jogging when Daniel ran up and attacked her from behind, knocking her to the ground in the street. He punched the victim several times in her face and body and pistol whipped her before dragging her behind a building and raping her. After, police say Daniel fled the area on foot.
Cleveland Police say DNA from that crime scene matches Daniel and they got a hit this morning.
On Aug. 31 there was a rape in Lakewood. While officials cannot confirm this is the same suspect, Joe Frolik with the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor's Office says there are similarities, such as the time of the incidents.
Lakewood Police, Cleveland Police, Cuyahoga County Sheriff's Office and Cuyahoga County Prosecutor's Office are investigating in tandem.
