PORTAGE COUNTY, OH (WOIO) - President/CEO of the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank, Dan Flowers, has challenged community leaders and businesses to participate in the 12th annual Portage Lakes Polar Bear Jump on Saturday, February 21, 2015.
Portage Lakes State Park is located at 5031 Manchester Road in Akron.
Flowers will be jumping into the frigid waters of Portage Lakes during the Polar Bear Jump benefiting the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank.
“Each day, the Foodbank and its team of partner agencies are putting approximately 82,000 meals on the tables of families in our community struggling with hunger,” explained Flowers. “We feel so fortunate to be able to partner with those in our community in this cause, and we sincerely thank the Portage Lakes Polar Bear Club for the opportunity to jump together in support of those in need!”
During last year's Polar Bear Jump, thousands of onlookers supported the 800 jumpers who plunged into the icy Portage Lakes. The jumpers raised $100,000 for non-profit agencies in our community.
