Flyers threatening teacher posted on University of Akron campus

AKRON, OH (WOIO) - Rape threats were posted on flyers in the College of Arts and Sciences building at the University of Akron campus, specifically targeting a Women's Studies teacher.

Police believe the hateful and pornographic flyers were put up some time in the last week, and they're still trying to figure out who's responsible. Posted on bulletin boards, the flyers included the teacher's personal information and home address.

The subject of the flyers released the following statement:

"Though I would prefer to maintain some privacy during the investigation, I am appealing for the public's help in identifying the person or individuals responsible for this crime. As a professor whose mission is to educate about issues of gender equality, I am horrified to be personally targeted by threats of this nature."

Some students said they heard about the offensive material on social media.

"That's really unfortunate. 2015. That women still have such a huge disadvantage in society's where it would be OK for someone to even think for a second they could post something about raping someone. That's really, really unfortunate," said alum Christine Thomas. "I felt pretty safe on campus. University of Akron's a good school, so I think just sometimes you have one bad apple could spoil the bunch."
