Cleveland Police need the public's help to identify a man wanted for kidnapping and attempted rape.
Police say it was a bold attack because it happened in broad daylight in a busy area.
"He's very brazen and very bold. So our hope is we can catch up with him before he attacks someone else," said Detective Jennifer Ciaccia.
Police say on July 6 just before 8 a.m., a 25-year-old woman reported that she was walking on West 98th Street near the Cudell Rec Center on her way to the bus stop, when she says she was attacked from behind by an unidentified man.
The victim told police the man put his arm around her neck, pulled a grey sweatshirt over her head and face, and violently dragged her behind a bush and attempted to rape her.
The woman was able to fight him off by kicking and scratching him.
Now residents in the area are keeping an eye out.
"It's a shock to know that something like that's going on in the area. With so many kids and older people in the area, it's kind of messed up," said Brandon McWhorter, who lives in the area.
"It's actually a bold move because there's people in and out of this store, the guys at the fire station, they sit out front. So I don't know, it must've been dead out there when it happened," he said.
Right now, police don't think this man is linked to any other attacks.
Police say the victim was wearing headphones. They want to remind everyone to be on alert wherever you are, especially if you're alone.
"You need to have it at a level where you can hear what's around you and be aware of your surroundings," Det. Ciaccia said.
If you recognize the man in the photos or have any information about the reported attack, contact the First District Detective Bureau at (216) 623-5118.
