CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - Why are Cleveland Schools hiring charter buses to take athletes to practice? It is a policy that is costing double what it would to use traditional yellow buses.
A source tells Cleveland 19 that it is widespread and could cost as much as $700 a day per bus.
We videotaped a charter bus at John Marshall taking football players to a park 1.7 miles away for practice. The reason is that the field at Marshall is in poor shape. District spokeswoman Roseann Canfora confirms the practice, and says it happens when there is a shortage of yellow buses. We are told that using a yellow bus costs half as much as a chartered bus.
Canfora says she will begin the process of getting hard numbers on how much is spent, Marshall is not the only school where the practice is used.
