AKRON, OH (WOIO) - An Akron man convicted in an animal cruelty case that went viral will finally be sentenced Thursday.
Trevonte Deaires Mitchell pleaded guilty last year to kicking a stray cat and posting the video on Facebook. (That video has since been removed.)
Mitchell was supposed to be sentenced August 14, 2014 but he never showed up.
He had been on the run until police found him Wednesday. Mitchell was picked up during a traffic stop. The Akron Police officer says he recognized him.
In addition to the animal cruelty charges, Mitchell is charged with carrying a concealed weapon.
During a court hearing last year Mitchell apologized for kicking the cat and said he had received death threats.
