Browns add Al Saunders to offensive staff

CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - Al Saunders has been added to the Cleveland Browns coaching staff per Nate Ulrich of Akron Beacon Journal. Saunders has been in football since 1970, when he was a Graduate assistant with Southern California.

- College: San Jose State University, Stanford University

- Saunders earned a Master's degree in education from Stanford University in 1970

- 32 years of coaching experience in the NFL

After coaching in the college ranks for 13 years, Saunders finally made it to the NFL in 1983, where he was the Assistant head coach/wide receivers coach with the San Diego Chargers.

In 1986, Saunders would serve as the interim head coach following the resignation of Don Coryell. He would spend two full seasons as the Chargers head coach.

Saunders would join the Baltimore Ravens coaching staff in 2009 as the Senior offensive coordinator, Current Cleveland Browns head coach Hue Jackson was the Ravens quarterbacks coach.

Jackson would leave the Ravens for the Oakland Raiders. After one season as offensive coordinator, Jackson would be named the head coach for the 2011 season.

Jackson would lure Saunders from the Ravens to serve as his offensive coordinator. Jackson would get fired after one season, where he posted an 8-8 record.

Saunders recently served as the Miami Dolphins Senior offensive specialist.

Hue Jackson has already stated that he will call the offensive plays for the Browns.
