Mother of 3 killed on Route 8 was Canton firefighter
AKRON, OH (WOIO) - Akron Police are investigating a deadly crash on Route 8 at Tallmadge Ave. The victim has been identified as Tonya R. Johnson, 43, of Canton. Johnson was a Canton firefighter.
Her death doesn't make sense to those who knew Johnson.
"She touched so many lives. She was the most giving person I've ever met and she made everyone around her better," said Canton Fire Chief Akbar Bennett.
The mother of two boys in their 20s and a 13-year-old daughter was hit and killed Monday.
Akron police said she and her husband of less than a month were in a car and got into an argument. She got out of the car and ran across three lanes of traffic, climbed over a median and was hit and killed by a truck going the opposite direction.
Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene. Her husband stayed at the scene.
An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.
