CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - With Cleveland getting ready to bask in the limelight of the Republican National Convention, we have questioned exactly what the national spotlight
will show.
Like the garbage-strewn and graffiti-riddled RTA Red Line or our interstate highway medians that contain all kinds of junk -- stuff that stays in place untouched for weeks on end.
Viewer Bob Elsas did some of our work for us. He sent Cleveland 19 News stories about the litter to convention movers and shakers and got a whole list of things that are going to be done, and it's an impressive list -- one that depends heavily on volunteers.

Every Saturday in June the Downtown Cleveland Alliance is recruiting people.
The cleanups will be from 7:30 a.m. until 2 p.m., but on June 4 volunteers will meet from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
'Clean up Cleveland' will focus on the area between the Marginal and the Shoreway.
If the Rapid is your passion, Saturday June 11, Sunday June 26 and Sunday July 10 you can show it from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Back to the highway litter, ODOT's cleanups are Sunday June 26 and Saturday July 9.

Relying on volunteers for some of the job is fine, but there is no way tires and heavy litter can be handled by volunteers. Who's accountable for
that?
ODOT crews on the highway, and they've got a lot of work to do. RTA on the rapid, and there is just as much to do. Both need to step it up.
We have heard a lot of promises about stuff being done in time for the convention, but what are we going do afterward to keep the ball rolling?
We'll be doing regular accountability checks.
