Police investigating shooting and home invasion incidents on city's east side

CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - Police are investigating two deadly incidents that took place Sunday evening: a homicide on E. 78th Street and a home invasion on E. 77th Street.

Police were in the area of 1138 E. 78th Street late Sunday evening on an unrelated shots fired report when they were flagged down by Carlos Corbin, 45. Corbin said that a man had been shot in his backyard.

Officers found Antonio L. Sanford, 35, with a gunshot wound to the chest. They transported him to University Hospitals, where he died.

Witnesses say that Sanford's death came after he forced his way into Corbin's home, looking for his ex-girlfriend. There was then a fight between him and Corbin that resulted in Sanford being shot.

Authorities are investigating to determine if the incident is related to a nearby home invasion at 1040 E. 77th Street, where the victim was also shot in the chest. The name of the victim has not yet been released.
