CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - A former patrol officer pleaded not guilty to accusations of raping a child on Wednesday morning.

Carl Kannenberg, a former Montville Township patrol officer, was charged with two counts of rape, two counts of gross sexual imposition and two counts of kidnapping. Reports said that the crimes occurred at University Hospital.

According to the indictment, Kannenberg's victim was 7 years old. Kannenberg was charged with committing anal penetration and with inappropriate sexual contact.

Kannenberg, 34, of Brunswick, was arrested on July 12 by the Cleveland Police Department and was released on July 14.

"Patient safety is our highest priority," UH said in a statement. "UH takes the safety of our patients very seriously. We are continually refining and strengthening our protocols to maintain a safe environment for our patients and their families."

Kanneberg's bond was set at $50,000 and he was ordered to have an HIV test.
