Allegiant Air coming to Cleveland-Hopkins
CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - Allegiant Air announced Wednesday that it would be adding services to the Cleveland Hopkins International Airport. The airline also announced that they will have four nonstop routes to vacation destinations this winter.
Allegiant's will be ceasing its current service at the Akron-Canton Airport. The move to Hopkins represents a period of expansion for the airline.
"We're very excited to announce this major growth in northeast Ohio, a region that has demanded more low-cost, nonstop service to the wonderful vacation destinations we serve," Jude Bricker, Allegiant chief operating officer, said in a release. "This move to Cleveland will allow Allegiant to have a stronger presence in northeast Ohio and allow us to offer our low fares and convenient travel to even more travelers."
Services moving from Akron to Cleveland include nonstop flights to Tampa Bay, Orlando, Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Savannah and Myrtle Beach. New services include nonstop flights to Jacksonville, Austin, New Orleans and Phoenix. Fares for some flights are as low as $39.
"Not only are we pleased to have Allegiant as our newest business partner at Cleveland Hopkins Airport, we're encouraged with the variety of destinations they are adding for our passengers," said Interim Airport Director Fred Szabo in a release. "Of the 10 markets they will be flying, we are initiating service to four new markets and adding service to six destinations. This represents a big win for northeast Ohio and our region."
The Akron-Canton Airport released a statement on the move, which the airport says will happen on Feb. 15, 2017.
"Although we hate to lose any airline service, we do not anticipate a significant impact from this announcement as customers have many other exceptional vacation destination options from CAK including new service from Spirit Airlines beginning Nov. 10," the airport said. "Customers can still very easily and affordably fly to Florida and Myrtle Beach nonstop from CAK. Customers looking for great fares, exceptional service and easy connections can also fly American, Delta, Southwest or United from CAK. Despite this reduction in service, CAK capacity (number of available seats daily) is anticipated to be an increase in the second quarter of 2017 (after service ends) over this year."
The Akron-Canton Airport says that customers with Allegiant Air reservations after Feb. 15 should contact the airline directly.
